Stone Throwing Roadworks
Incidents of stone-throwing and obstructions on the road have been reported in past years, just after the Grasmere Toll Plaza towards Evaton (South). Beware of pedestrians. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and be vigilant. Daytime travelling is advised. The road is potholed and in a poor condition. There are roadworks in progress with stop/go controls.

Maintenance Work
Strong winds occasionally occur in this area and can be very dangerous. Motorists, especially truck drivers, are advised to exercise caution and reduce speed in such conditions.

Roadworks
A contract for repair and reseal between Zandkraal (just south of Verkeerdevlei Toll Plaza) and Winburg is in progress with stop/go controls in operation. Motorists should be alert to pedestrians and heavy vehicle activity in Ventersburg, where an urban speed restriction is in place. Expected date of completion is September 2014. An improvement contract through Ventersburg commenced in October 2011. The road will be realigned and traffic will be accommodated through parallel roads adjacent to the N1. Ad-hoc stop/go controls will be in operation.

Stop/Go Controls
The road between Bloemhof and Christiana is in a fair to poor condition and uneven in places. The road is being reconstructed and widened between Bloemhof and Beefmaster with two stop/go controls in operation. Delays of +-15 minutes at a time may be expected. Reduced speed limits may apply. Expected date of completion is May 2012.

Road Closure
The section of Bultfontein Road between North Circular and New Main Streets has been closed indefinitely due to subsidence of the Big Hole. Alternative routes are clearly signposted.
