Strike to Hit UK Airports

Baggage handlers at Gatwick and Stansted have voted in favour of industrial action over the coming Bank Holiday weekend in the UK.

The baggage handlers, all members of the Unite Union employed by Swissport, will strike over a pay dispute.

“Unite is seeking an urgent meeting with Swissport management in an attempt to settle the dispute. Swissport has reneged on a pay deal agreed last year. The two-year deal committed to at least a 2, 75% pay increase in the second year but the company has failed to honour the agreement,” the union said in a statement.

"The union's shop stewards will consider the appropriate course of action whilst urging Swissport to return to the negotiating table and make a fair offer to avoid any industrial action."
