Road works with three stop/go controls are in operation between Citrusdal and Cederberg. Delays of Ī10 minutes may be encountered at each control. Expected date of completion is May 2015. Further road works with five stop/go controls are in operation between Bitterfontein and Garies. Expected date of completion is May 2014.The road may be closed twice a week between 14:00 and 15:00 for blasting activities. Blasting times are displayed on signs one week in advance.
The gravel section of this road to the Namibian border is in a good condition and graded regularly.

Beware of pedestrians and stray animals in the vicinity of Okiep and Steinkopf. Roadwork teams may be encountered.
Construction work is in progress between the Western Cape and Northern Cape border (Van Rhyns Pass) to Calvinia. Motorists should be alert on sections with limited line markings.
Caution is advised as trucks with abnormal loads frequently use this route. Expected date of completion is September 2014.

Routine road maintenance teams may be encountered. Motorists should also be alert to pedestrians and/or stray animals in the vicinity of Okiep and Steinkop.
The gravel section of the road is badly potholed and in a poor condition. The road has short, sharp curves. Travelling with caravans or heavy vehicles is not recommended.
