The AA supports the Minister of Transport’s decision to extend the validity of learner licences from 18 months to 2 years. Effective from 17 February 2010, all learner licences will be valid for 24 months – together with extended operational hours over weekends for driver testing centres - this in an effort to reduce the backlog of driver licence tests.
“We are grateful that the Ministry has taken this decision to improve service delivery and make it more convenient for candidates to sit for their learner test and do their practical licence evaluation. Members of the public are urged to check when their local testing centre will be operational over weekends as the decision to open individual testing centres will be according to operational demand”, said the Automobile Association.
“Currently many people consider obtaining a fraudulent licence due to the delays experienced in getting a test date, especially when a driver licence is a condition of employment. The extended hours should reduce these delays substantially fairly quickly”, added the AA.
