Keeping Safe During the Comrades Marathon

Keeping safe during the Comrades marathon With the Comrades Marathon taking place this weekend, the Automobile Association (AA) urges all participants to be aware on the roads, be safe and pay attention to all road users.

Please be aware that there are road works on the N3. The carriageway is reduced to a single lane for emergency road works in the Pietermaritzburg area. Also, on the N2 towards Durban a new project has commenced which focuses on the upgrading of the Inanada/Umgeni Interchanges. There will be Stop/Go control in operation at the on/off ramps and a large portion of the road has been closed off.

The AA, says that health issues such as fatigue and dehydration are a big concern when a person is behind the wheel. “Your best bet is to make plans for accommodation once you have finished the race. It’s a long one and it takes its toll on the body – the last thing you need to be doing when you are dehydrated and fatigued is to drive.”

The AA wishes all Comrades participants good luck and a speedy recovery after the race.
