The AA Technical College bursariesThe AA Technical College donates six bursaries to Soshanguve Township
The Automobile Association (AA) Technical College and the Transport SETA have joined forces to provide six bursaries to previously disadvantaged students. The socio-economic development (SED) programme, initiated by the AA Technical College, aims to make a difference in young student’s lives by giving them the opportunity to become artisans.
The six students from Kgabo Cars in SoshanguveTownshipwho were given the bursariesalready had basic skills of fixing and maintaining cars, however this was not enough to further their careers. The AATechnical College course provides four years of training, which will include practical technical exposure as well as theoretical knowledge. This will givethem the opportunity to obtain the necessary skills, helping them become qualified artisans, and give them the chance to open their own businesses one day.
“The AATechnical College is proud to be involved in the development of education in South Africa. Initiatives such as oursocio-economic development programme gives students who cannot afford to study the opportunity to grow their careers,” says Werner Wandrey, National Technical Training Manager at the AA Technical College.
Mpho Tswidi, one of the fortunate students to receive a bursary, is very grateful for the opportunity the AATechnical College and the Transport SETA have provided. “I have already attended my first class at the AATechnical Collegeand Ireally enjoyed the hands-on approach that we received,” says Tswidi.
Another of the students, a young lady, Portia Sekgabi, developed an interest in cars after watching her uncle fixing cars when she was a child. He gave her the inspiration to take her interest further and learn to become a motor mechanic. “I could not afford to study further, so when the AATechnical College offered me the bursary to become a fully qualified artisan I jumped at the opportunity,” says Sekgabi.
