The AA condemns waste of money on eToll advertising

The AA’s Reaction To SANRAL's Advertising Spend

10 July 2013

The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) has expressed its astonishment that SANRAL spent R85 million over the 2011/2012 period on advertising eTolls. We question how such a large sum can go towards driving awareness around a matter that remains before the court.

As the majority of the funding is coming directly from tax payers’ pockets, this kind of spending on a system that is already destined to put considerable strain on the cash-strapped consumer is shameful. This is yet another display of SANRAL’s disregard for the financial pressures faced by the average South African.

The AA remains committed to fighting eTolling, not just in Gauteng but the rest of South Africa, and we continue to urge our Members to not register for etags yet as we still believe in an equitable solution.
