Make Easter a feast of family fun at home

Make Easter a feast of family fun at home |AA

The Easter long weekend is here! While South Africans are not allowed to travel for the long weekend, you can still keep your family smiling while you’re safe at home.

We may not be allowed out in public spaces, but it is a great time to spend time with your family - whether it is in the kitchen cooking up a storm, playing games or just snuggling up on the couch. We have put together some activities that you can do as a family over the Easter long weekend:

  • Plan an Easter scavenger hunt.

Budgets may be a bit tighter this year, but you can still have a scavenger hunt on Easter Sunday.

Get up early on Sunday morning, hide some treats inside your home and garden, if you have one, then hand out some clues or riddles and start hunting together.

  • Prepare an Easter feast.

A feast doesn’t necessarily need to break the budget. Involve the family with tasks to help prepare and cook Sunday lunch feast. Knowing that everyone pitched in and helped will make it taste so much better. Here are some jobs that everyone can help with:

  • Set the table (and clean up).
  • Wash the dishes.
  • Help to peel and chop vegetables.
  • Help to mix ingredients or stir sauces.
  • Bake a cake, some cookies or make a dessert.

What is a feast without a dessert? Recruit the kids to help you to bake and decorate some cookies, or bake a cake or dessert to enjoy after Sunday lunch, and spend some quality time with them in the kitchen while you play baker man.

  • Play games with the family.

The coming Easter long weekend is an excellent opportunity to pack out and play some old-school board games. From Monopoly to Cluedo, or even building that puzzle you’ve wanted to, get everyone around a table and let the laughs ensue. Here are some games you might have stashed away:

  • Monopoly
  • Scrabble
  • Jenga
  • Cluedo
  • 30 Seconds
  • Twister
  • Pictionary
  • Playing cards (for playing 'go fish' or 'snap')
  • A compendium of games with Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and more.
  • Watch family movies.

Don’t feel like playing games? Pop some popcorn, build a big family bed in the living room and watch a family movie (or two) to relax. We suggest Rise of the Guardians or Hop to entertain the whole family.

What are you planning to do this Easter long weekend? We wish you a safe and happy Easter from the AA.
