1. Registering for AA Accident Assist

Who can register for AA Accident Assist?

Anyone with a recent smartphone, running a supported operating system, can register.

How do I sign up for AA Accident Assist?

To use AA Accident Assist, you must first register on the website at www.aaaccident.co.za, then follow the step-by-step instructions.

What if I’ve already registered for the AA Rescue Service?

If you’ve already registered for the AA Rescue Service, simply login and complete the additional AA Accident Assist details, then click the update button to load the latest version of the app on to your phone.

Is my information safe and secure?

The AA ensures that your personal data, and that of your contacts, is only accessible to employees with the necessary security credentials. Information relating to the use of your data from our website is detailed in our PrivacyPolicy.

What web browser do I need to use the AA Accident Assist website?

You may use any recent web browser, or a web-enabled smartphone to access the website.

What kind of phone do I need to use the AA Accident Assist mobile application?

Smartphone access to AA Accident Assist mobile application is available for Android, iOS and Blackberry using the following operating systems:

  • iOS 5, 6 and 7
  • Android Gingerbread 2.3; Honeycomb 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2; Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0; Jelly Bean 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3, and Kit Kat 4.4
  • Blackberry 7

How do I get access to AA Accident Assist on my phone?
Simply register free-of-charge on the website at www.aaaccident.co.za, then download the mobile application if you have a smartphone (see operating systems supported). Or, if you’ve already registered for the AA Rescue Service, simply login and complete the additional AA Accident Assist details, then click the update button to load the latest version of the app on to your phone.

Can registered users travelling outside of South Africa use AA Accident Assist?

Yes, the AA Accident Assist mobile application will operate if you have international roaming enabled however, data charges are for your account and may be inordinately high. Please note that the AA Rescue Service is currently only operational in South Africa.

Can I register for the AA Rescue Service if I live outside South Africa?

The AA Rescue service is currently only available in South Africa.

Why do I need to register for AA Accident Assist?

You must ensure that you register and create your profile in order to activate and use AA Accident Assist, and for your accident information to be uploaded to your AA Accident Assist website profile for safe-keeping.

If I register for AA Accident Assist, do I get the AA Rescue Service as well?

Registration for the AA Rescue Service is automatic when you register for AA Accident Assist

Do I need to register for AA Accident Assist when I already have the AA Rescue Service?

You must ensure that you register and create your profile in order to activate and use AA Accident Assist, and for your accident information to be uploaded to your AA Accident Assist website profile for safe-keeping.

2. Using your phone for AA apps

Can I only use the AA Rescue Service if I have a smartphone?

You can register and access the AA Rescue Service no matter what phone you have. If your phone is not a smart phone, simply dial *120* 22000#. Setting this up as a phonebook contact, or on speed dial will save you time in an emergency situation. But make sure you register first!

How do I know if my phone is smartphone?

If your phone is a smartphone, you will be able to access the internet from your phone, download apps, as well as send and receive email.

Are there charges associated with using my cellphone?

If you are using a smartphone, you will pay for the alert sent to our call centre at usual cellphone rates. If you are using the USSD dial string, then network operator premium rates apply.

3. Accident Assist and how it works

What is AA Accident Assist?

AA Accident Assist is the latest update to the AA’s FREE mobile phone application, to give you critical help on the road. In an accident situation, it guides you through the process… recording information, witness and 3rd party details… keeping photos, videos and voice recordings ready for your insurance claim.

Why do I automatically get the AA Rescue Service when I register and download AA Accident Assist?

The AA Rescue Service is core to the AA’s app service offering and provides you with peace-of-mind access to roadside assistance in an emergency situation. In an accident situation, you may need a tow, overnight storage or transport to hospital, our Emergency Call Centre can assist with these needs, ensuring you get the help you need, and AA Members access their Membership benefits directly from their benefits entitlement.

What do I do in the event of an accident and I want to record the details on my AA Accident Assist app?

Simply open the AA Accident Assist app and select Accident Details. You can then start completing the information you’ll require for an insurance claim or if you need to take legal action at a later date.

How do I ensure that the information I complete at the accident scene will upload to my website profile for later use?

As soon as you click save on the Report an Accident screen, your information will be uploaded and available to you on your website profile at www.aaaccident.co.za.

What happens if I can’t complete all of the information at the scene of the accident?

You may add, edit, amend or complete information at any time afterwards by accessing your Accident Details form either on your phone or on your website profile.

How long will you keep my accident information available on the website?

Your information will be kept for a maximum of 6 months.

4. Technical assistance for AA Accident Assist mobile application

I registered for AA Accident Assist, but I am having trouble logging in.

5. The AA Rescue Service and how it works

What happens once I send a Rescue Me alert?

Your alert will trigger an emergency notification in the AA’s 24 hour call centre advising us that you require assistance and providing your location, as well as confirming the contact and vehicle details that you registered with us. In addition, you’ll receive a phone call to confirm your assistance requirements. If you have a smart phone and have set it up for selected phonebook contacts to receive a sms, this will also be sent instantly, once you press the Rescue Me button.

I don’t have internet access to register for the AA Rescue Service. Is there another way I can register?

Simply call our helpline on 0861 444 143 and one of our call takers will assist you, weekdays between 8am and 5pm.

Do I have to be an AA Member to receive assistance from the AA Rescue Service?

You can still receive assistance from the AA even if you are not an AA Member. You have the option to join the AA and receive AA Rescue Service assistance from your AA Membership benefits entitlement, or at AA Member preferred rates. If you choose not to become an AA Member services will be rendered at market-related rates and on a pay-on-use basis.

6. AA Members and the AA Rescue Service

I am an AA Member, how do I receive assistance from the AA Rescue Service?

If you are an active, paid-up AA Member with remaining benefits entitlement, your assistance will be provided in the usual way and according to the terms and conditions of your Membership, or at preferred AA Member rates if you have no benefits remaining.

I am an AA Member, will it cost me more for assistance through the AA Rescue Service?

Registering for the AA Rescue Service is free-of-charge and your AA Membership benefit entitlements will apply.

I am already an AA Member, do I still have to register for the AA Rescue Service?

If you register, you won’t need to call us in an emergency situation, simply press the Rescue Me button, or dial *120* 22000#, and we’ll instantly know exactly where to find you. You may still access your AA Membership benefits without registering if you prefer.

7. My AA Rescue Service account

I have the AA Rescue Service Rescue Me button on my phone, how do I use it in an emergency?
In a roadside emergency situation, press the Rescue Me button. A signal will be sent to our Emergency Call Centre, with your location details so that we know exactly where to find you, saving time in an emergency. We will call you to confirm which service you require and to ensure that you are safe.

My spouse and I share an email account, can we both sign up for the AA Rescue Service?

You may both register with the same email account details, but you will each need to register for an AA Rescue Service account in order to provide contact and vehicle details for emergency situations, and to receive service.

Can I add a dependant to my account?

Your dependants will each need to register themselves for the AA Rescue Service in order to provide contact and vehicle details for emergency situations, and to receive service.

I forgot my password, how do I get a new one?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and click on Forgot Password option in the Login window

8. My personal information

Can I upload a profile photo?

No profile photo is required.

How do I enter my personal information?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and register as a user.

How do I update my personal information?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and Login, then click on Update Details.

Will you sell my information to a third-party?

You can feel safe and secure with the AA as your information will never be sold on to a 3rd party.

9. My nominated emergency contacts
How do I change / update my emergency contacts?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and Login, then click on Update Details.

How many emergency contacts can I have?

You may register up to 3 nominated contacts.

How do you inform my nominated contacts in an emergency?

If we are unable to contact you at the contact details on your profile after 3 attempts, we will call your nominated emergency contacts at the numbers you provided when registering, so make sure to keep these details up-to-date.

How do I change the name of my AA Rescue Service nominated contacts?

Simply visit the website at www.aarescue.co.za and Login using the details you provided on registering, then select Update Details to make changes to your nominated contact’s information.

How many of my nominated contacts do you call in an emergency?

If we receive a Rescue Me alert from your phone, and we are unable to contact you after 3 attempts, we will attempt to contact each of your nominated emergency contacts in turn.

Can my emergency contacts be out of the province or international?

Your emergency contacts may be anywhere in South Africa.
