Is there any Standardisation of Fine Amounts Across the Country?

Question:

Is there any standardisation of fine amounts across the country? For example, if a motorist receives a fine in Gauteng and another in Kimberley for the exact same km/h, will the fine amount be the same?

Answer:

The fine amounts issued in various regions may differ as a result of the different fine schedules being followed due to varying legislation.

There are two pieces of legislation governing traffic fines in Gauteng, the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act (AARTO) and the Criminal Procedure Act. The rest of the country is governed by the Criminal Procedure Act only.
