NQF Qualifications

The AA Technical College offers selected unit standards towards the following Learnership qualifications, based on a 2 to 3 year programme, in the following trades:

  • Autotronics.
  • Automotive Repair& Maintenance(CommercialVehicles) Diesel Mechanic
  • Diesel Fitter - Diesel Fuel Injection Technician
The Training Programme

A total of 3 levels need to be completed over a 6 months to 1 year time frame per level. An apprentice will attend an average of 6 weeks of institutional training. These visits are scheduled over either 6 months per level (in line with the Accelerated Artisan Training Project (AATP)) or over 12 months per level.

Entry Requirements for Learnership

The minimum age and educational qualifications for commencing a learnership is 16 years of age and a Grade 10 (Standard 8) qualification. However a Grade 11 (Standard 9) or Matric (Standard 10) with Maths and Science would be preferred.

POE Assessments and Trade Tests

Once the training for each level has been completed, the learner's Portfolio of Evidence (POE) will need to be assessed for completeness and then submitted to Merseta for moderation. Only once Merseta has upheld the competent judgment of the AA Technical College, will the learner be able to move onto the next level and receive a Merseta Certificate of Competence for the previous level.

The employer may choose to qualify the learner once the learner has successfully completed his/her NQF Level 4 summative assessment. Currently it is not compulsory to let the learner write an ARPL Trade Test, however it is advised since the majority of the industry is not familiar with the NQF system thus might discriminate against a NQF qualified tradesman.

These courses are designed for employed and contractually registered learners. The programme relies on the practical exposure a learner receives in the workplace.
